Last night I came up with an addition to the movie Quotes Quiz idea. So, without further ado, here it is!

At the end of every month (usually two complete quotes quizzes), the person who has the most points will (1) get a 'Winner of the Month' award with the choice of the background picture, font and font color, and (2) be announced here on my blog, along with their blog button and an urging from me to visit their blog. However, if a person wins twice in a row, the person in second place will be mentioned (I will mention it if this happens). Also, every month the second and third place winners will also get their personalized awards to put on their blogs. All other participants will get an, 'I participated' button, which the first, second, and third place winners do not get.

Wow, I can't believe this is the very last challenge post! It went by so fast... Anyway, I've been thinking and thinking and thinking of a motto or philosophy, and I didn't think of one until today (9/17). So I am again a day late. Ugh. And it's the last one, too! Well, I looked up a random quote in a book, and here it is- "Be friendly to all and a burden to no one. Let your manner be courteous, your forgiveness willing, your promises true, and your speech wise."

Hopes, plans, and dreams I have for the next 365 days... Well. I (think you know this one) really, really, really want to publish a book, or rather take the first steps to getting one published. There's a hope, plan, and dream all in one.

Wow, now that I think of it, I can't think. I mean, can't think of anything else I'm really wanting to accomplish in the next year. :) I mean, well, I would like to finish 9th grade, and I'd like to read a lot of books (including those on my Kindle [yes, I did finally get it!]), and I'd like to go hunting this fall, and I'd like to get something while I'm hunting this fall, and... Wow, I guess I do have more things I'd like to do this next year! How 'bout that...

Oooh... I think I have a pretty good scar-tellin' story. There's a scar on the tip of my ring finger of my left hand. I got it from unsheathing a knife my next-to-oldest brother had just bought. The irony of the whole thing, though, was that my mom had told me just before to not cut myself. I assured her I wouldn't, and then, holding it in just the 'right' way, I slid the knife out. I had put my ring finger just at the spot where the blade was coming out. Actually, I didn't feel anything (which means it was deep), except that the tip of my finger was cold all of the sudden. I think when I saw it, I was thinking, "Wow. That's bad." Anyway, there's only a roughly 6 mm scar left to tell the tragic tale. (Yes, I did measure it. Call me weird if you want, but I was kinda curious.)

I know Jillian at His Handmaidens has chosen this particular physical feature, and probably others, but I like it, and I use them the most- hands. You can do so many things with them, and very few things without them. One of my favorite thing to do with them is (you guessed it) writing.

There are also many unique things to do, like make a really weird face (for instance, look at the picture below).

Here's a childhood memory of mine- I remember going on a homeschool field trip to a sort of amusement park thing a looooong time ago. All I really remember is walking into a large whale's mouth and seeing Jonah inside. But, sadly, no one can back up my memory, because everyone I've asked that I think went there doesn't remember! I'm sure it wasn't a dream, because I also remember it being very warm, and lots of times my older family members and friends wouldn't go on a ride with me. :( Oh well.

In today's post, here's a recipe for y'all. I hafta warn you, though, I'm copying it from a card my brother wrote, and his handwriting isn't the greatest, so if your lemon bars end up coming out burnt or green, it isn't directly my fault.

Lemon Bars

2 C. plus 4 Tbsp. flour. Separate.

1 C. butter-softened

1 C. powdered sugar

4 eggs

1 C. sugar

6 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. baking powder

Instructions-

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Combine the 2 C. flour and butter and powdered sugar. Press into 13x9" pan. Bake 20 minutes.
Beat eggs w/mixer. Add sugar; blend well. Add lemon juice; beat well. Add baking powder and 4 Tbsp. flower; beat well.
Pour mixture over hot crust; do not let cool. Bake 20-25 minutes. Dust top with powdered sugar.

The Bourne Identity. That's a movie I'm pretty sure at least some of you wouldn't think I'd love. I just watched it, along with the second and third one, for the second time last week. I'd forgotten how good they were! I think I might just have to put that series up to my favorite series and movie(s). (And by the way, we use Clearplay for it!)

Maybe some of you who know me more are really thinking, "Yup, that sounds like the type of movie she'd like, knowing her," but I don't know that, so I chose it anyway.

A way in which I want to be remembered?...Uh...I'd want to be remembered as a..................................................................................................................................................writer. Bet you couldn't see that one coming. ;) Yup, it was probably totally unexpected. But I would like to be remembered as, if not an actual has-at-least-one-book-published authoress, at least someone who loves writing.

Well, my mom said that a talent of mine would be drawing. I don't know who else has chosen this already, so I'll do it. One thing about my drawing, though, is I can't just come up with something out of my head and have it turn out even mildly good or how I wanted it to be. Kinda like this-

(That's not something I drew, by the way.) I can only draw copies of other people's work. Not trace it, but just look at the drawing, and sort of imitate it. Anyway, that's my post!

I'd say that a person I admire would be Agatha Christie. She was an amazing writer. All of her books are so complicated and so good, it's--well--amazing!

I think she even got knighted (I think that's what it's called) by the Queen of England for writing such great books. I admire her because she's such a good writer, and because I love writing myself.

For a vacation I'd like to take, I'd love to go to Europe and stay there for about a month, just visiting a bunch of different places. Oh, that would be sooo fun!

Let's see...a moment I wish I could relive.... I guess It would be going to Disneyland with my brother, mother and grandmother. I know that wasn't just a 'moment', but it was a really fun day.

Just the entrance itself was amazing, and after we went through, there was a sort of garden with flowers and other plants shaped like different things-

And when we came to the place before the castle, it was like an old-fashioned town, with tons of neat-looking stores-

And the castle was huge! It had a lot of detail inside as well as outside, and you had to walk through it to get to the rides and such, which was a good excuse to look at everything inside it.

And that was only the entrance! Believe me, I could ramble on all day about which rides we went to (like the Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted House), how much the food was (a basic, burger with fries was like $8.00!), and other things like that. But anyway, it was a lot of fun!

(By the way, it says I posted this yesterday, but I really did it today, 'cause I was away all day in town, so I didn't have any time to do it!)

I'd totally say that Lost is my favorite TV show. I do want to point something out, though; me and my mom watched them on our Clearplay DVD thing, so all the bad stuff was edited out. But in the middle of the second season we realized Clearplay didn't have the rest of the season on it, so we had to stop. That was about a year ago, and I'm still waiting, hoping to see at least the rest of the season soon.... Anyway, it's a really, really good show, with all the 'bad stuff' edited out.

I'd have to say that Brisingr, the third book in the Inheritance Cycle, is my favorite book, which is why my profile picture is the cover. For anyone who hasn't read the series and is thinking about whether or not they should, I'd say yes, you should definitely read them. There are a few iffy parts, but if you ignore them the series is truly magnificent.

I was thinking through movies I really like, and I noticed they were all from a series! So, out of all of them, I chose The Fellowship of the Ring. I'm pretty sure all of you have heard of it, and I really like it! The Two Towers and The Return of the King come in close second. :)

Hello! Wow, the distances between my posts are getting further apart. :/ Oh well. Discussions Abound

I'm soooo sorry I haven't done this for a while, but NaNoWriMo is keeping me as busy as ever. Alright, looks like this one is about our opinions on certain movies. Eldarwen has already done her post over on her blog (click her name to see it or if you have any questions). And here I go....

(Sorry the picture is so small.) The first out of the two movies I will talk about is Nim's Island. It is harmless, and I really enjoyed watching it. I will try to tell you about it, and I hope it doesn't turn out too long. :)

Nim is a girl (I think she's 11, and Nim is a nickname of mine, just to let ya know) that traveled around the world several times with her dad, Jack (she calls him by his first name, and in a second I'll explain why). Her mother died when she was very little, and her dad told her that her mother was an explorer and that once, while she was looking into the mouth of a large whale, a pirate ship called the Buccaneer scared the whale and.... I think you can guess what happened to her. Anyways, the two find a large, undiscovered island, which became their new home. By the way, just in case you haven't seen it before, I'm not telling you all that happens in the movie, so really there's more going on than I'm telling you about. Okay, back to the story- Her dad goes missing when he gets lost in the ocean on a little boat. She's scared when he doesn't come back on time, and her fears increase when she spots a mysterious ship coming closer to the island.... Well, that's all I'm going to tell you. You'll have to watch the movie to see what happens. By the way, Gerard Butler, who plays the phantom in The Phantom of the Opera, also plays two characters in this movie, and Abigale Breslin and Jody Foster are in it. And now...

The other movie I want to tell you all about is Penelope. Okay, here's the short version-

Penelope's great-great-great grandfather gets 'cursed' in a way that the next girl in the family was to be born with a face of a pig. Yes, I know, I also thought that the movie sounded really weird, but when I watched it I really liked it! Honestly! Okay, and here's how the story happened-

Penelope was born with the face of a pig (no kidding!). Before, the family had only had sons, who had all sons, etc. In the picture above that's how she really looks, except her nose is... you know...it looks like a pig's. She really doesn't look that bad. So, the 'curse' could only be broken if Penelope married a blue-blood like her. Boy, I just looked at the time and I've got to really hurry now! Long story really short (I'm leaving out a lot of the extra stuff that's probably important), she has to get married to some guy that's a blue-blood when she really wants to marry another guy. You'll just have to see the movie, because I can't really explain it all or it would take a lot longer, and I don't have the time. G'day y'all!

My 50th Post Celebration!

I have an update! My prize will be a completely personalized award with whatever theme you want! It can be from any movie, or just whatever! :) I know some of you are doing your 200th post, but for me number 50 is a reason to celebrate! This one will be a little different, though. Since everyone has different wants for their blogs and such, I'm going to let you choose what you want me to do, unless it's something super-complicated like a complete blog make-over, unless you want the really basic type. To tell you the truth, I had no idea that this was my fiftieth until I saw on my dashboard '49 posts' so I'm really not that prepared. So just in case you can't come up with anything, I'll give you a few choices if I can come up with something if you comment. :) I'll let you know now, though, that my 100th post will be much more worth-while! I did some math, and I figured out that, in order to just barely squeeze by with my word count goal, I'm gonna have to write 1,000 words a day for the rest of the month of November! AAHH!

Alright, here's my first post on Discussions Abound. First I must let you know that Eldarwen Failariel created a discussion group including Jillian, Myself, Eldarwen, Miss Morgan, Ashley, Emily and Rachel B. By the way, you can 'sign up' any time by clicking Eldarwen's name above and asking her to. This week's discussion is about movies. :) The one I'm gonna talk about is Inkheart.

Inkheart is based on the book 'Inkheart' by Cornelia Funke. It's about a small family (the dad Mo, the mother Resa, and their little girl, Meggie). I'm not going to tell you too much so I won't spoil it. Here's the interesting part about the story- There are certain people in the world called Silvertongues. Why are they called that? Because they can read characters out of books with their voice. So what's bad about that? The only way to read someone out is to read someone into it. That's what happened to unsuspecting Mo Folchart. While reading an unpopular book, Inkheart (who would've guessed), he reads two villains and a minstrel named Dustfinger out, and his wife in. The story is about him and his daughter, Meggie, trying to get her back. I've probably revealed too much as it is, but oh well. Next Saturday, I will post the next discussion along with the others that have joined.

The story contest ended today, so here are the 1st and 2nd winners picked...

1st place...Megan! I really, really liked your story!

It was a calm, Tuesday afternoon. As normal, I was off on my bi-nightly walk. I had gone about 3/4ths of a mile when I was hit on the back of my head. I still don't know by whom, or what. I'm not even sure if it ever occurred. But when I regained consciousness, I didn't know where I was.

Light...green light? The fuzziness of my vision was starting to clear. I sat up quickly...too quickly, and my vision again blurred with a head-rush. After a moment, I saw I was in a deep wood...no, a jungle. Lush green foliage and trees surrounded me wherever I looked. I stood up and looked down at the mossy patch I'd been laying on. I was confused....Hadn't I just been on a walk?
A twig or branch snapped and I looked up. It took a moment, but I then saw two large eyes in a bush with purple berries on it. Whatever it was took a step out. It had humanoid features but with thick hair, very large eyes, and unusually long arms. It came to about my knee.
It then smiled at me, showing a wide grin of sharp teeth. It let out a giggle - yes, it sounded most like a giggle. Then, before I knew it, about twenty of the creatures were standing about ten feet away from me. They were coming from the bushes. All of them looked about the same, but with different colored leaves in their thick brown hair.
The one I had first seen - their leader if they have such - took three steps toward me. I, feeling no hostilities from them, smiled and held out my hand. I later learned from my mistakes, but then I honestly thought they looked harmlessly friendly.
It walked to my outstretched hand and touched it. then it started caressing my hand and wrist. Others soon came and started petting my jean-covered legs and bare arms. They probably had never seen anything like me before and were curious. I felt kinda like Tarzan's Jane. One of the creatures then climbed up my side and sat on my shoulder and looked at my hair. Others climbed up and soon I was covered in them. One slipped off my shoulder, and I felt it make a tiny scrape on my arm as it tried to hold on with its small claws but fell. A small drop of blood leaked down my arm and I took no notice, but one of the creatures did. It touched the blood and looked at it on its finger, then sniffed it. A strange look came over its face and it bit be on my arm! Its teeth sank in and I felt sudden pain. I yelped and tried to shake it off. It wouldn't budge. The pain was getting worse so I, well, bopped it on its head. It fell off with a thud and growled. Its white teeth, now red with blood, turned into a wolfish snarl, and it then tried again to leap onto my arm. I stumbled back, tripped over one, and fell with a thud. I heard a bone-curdling snap as I landed on one.
I stood up and looked down. I think I killed one. It laid there motionless. They were all looking at me, then at the one on the ground. All of the sudden they were all on it, eating it like hyenas on their prey. What were they?
I started running. My arm still pained me terribly, but I ignored it. They noticed me. I ran as fast as I could but they were fast, too. They were gaining on me. One took a huge leap and landed on my back, and it bit my shoulder. I then was screaming and flailing my arms, trying to get it off me while still running. The little raptor was scratching me now. Finally I knocked it off. I looked back. They were leaving- running to the side.
I stopped after I felt I had gone a long distance and tried to catch my breath. I turned and there they were. How had they gotten here so fast? So I kept running. The trees and moss were starting to turn into rocks and dirt, making it harder to run. I looked back and they were still coming, death written in their eyes. I felt something shift under me, but it was too late. I had run myself right over a cliff. Ironic...I had been running from my death and ended up right in it.
I fell for a long time. I saw the ground coming near....I knew I was falling too fast and hard to survive...

I woke up to a strange texture. Sand, very warm sand........

And here's the winner for second place...Mitchell! Actually, it's a story he wrote three years ago and my mom put it in this contest. Surprise, Mitch!

I stuffed the last of my stuff into my pack, cinched it shut and strapped it on. My best friend, Mark, and I had just finished clearing our campsite and were heading back. We were leaving from a weekend long backpacking trip in Glacier Park.
The trail back wasn't very difficult except for one spot where the trail almost disappeared and then branched of in several directions. Only one lead back to the ranger station. As we stood there trying to decide which to take, I noticed a sign saying that several bears had been encountered and to use caution when proceeding. Paying no heed to it, we chose a path and continued on. After an hour or so the trail gradually began to fade out. Puzzled, we continued on for a very short while. It became evident we had taken the wrong one, but it was about one-thirty so we figured we'd take a half-hour rest and then return to the fork in the trails and go a different way this time- hopefully the correct one.
Lunch consisted of hot dogs grilled at camp, energy bars, and water filtered fro a nearby stream. While we were packing the remains of our lunch, I thought I heard some rustling in a stand of trees. Remembering the sign about the bear encounters, I slipped my can of bear spray out of my pack and strung it on my belt.
A ways down the trail I noticed my bootlace was loose. Ignoring it I continued, but it began to annoy me so I stopped to retie it. Finishing, I looked up and saw that Mark had kept on going. Before I could call out to wait, I saw something moving in the trees beside the path. I called out to him, and just as he turned around, a large Grizzly burst out of the trees, heading straight toward him. I yelled at Mark to move away but he only just finished turning around and the bear crashed into him, throwing him into a tree and knocking him out cold.
The bear started walking toward him, growling menacingly. Remembering the spray, I jerked it from its case and ripped the safety cap off, and in doing so fired off a small burst, some of which got into my eyes and stung painfully. I finally managed to get a sight on the bear and pressed the button, but the spray didn't even come close to hitting him. I ran towards it keeping the button depressed.
Before I even got there, the spray can was empty, the bear had finished toying with Mark and was turning towards me. I turned to run, but before I had taken eight steps he caught up to me and with a roar smashed its paw into the side of my head. My vision exploded into a shower of stars and then everything went black.
